About Us

Welcome to the Old Basing Royal British legion Corps of Drums website.

Our website is regularly updated so please take some time familiarising yourselves with the band, our members, and the forthcoming events we have planned.

We are always on the lookout for new members and will provide uniform, instruments and tuition – why not give us a try?  If you would like further information about the band, then please contact our Band Secretary Diane Matthews who will be happy to help.

The Corps of Drums was formed in 1985 from a nucleus of personnel from the Army Cadets and incorporates both male and female members from the ages of 12 to 75 years +.  It provides musical accompaniment for all manner of events, parades and for other service associations through the south and indeed into Europe during the calendar year.

The Corps of Drums roots are here in the village of Old Basing and band practice takes place every Sunday (except for engagement days) in the hall of the Royal British Legion in Crown Lane.  Spring and summer are the busy periods and the band already has a growing list of engagements each year.  New musicians, whether experienced or budding, are always welcome and all uniform and associated equipment is provided.

The band has an active social side too, with discos, quiz nights and organised trips to concerts etc. amongst the activities.  Members are obliged to join the Royal British Legion where of course you are then entitled to use all the great facilities that it offers.

Contact the band coordinator to find out more or simply turn up at the hall on any Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and meet the lads and lasses.  You will be most welcome.
